ADVOCATING FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS
ADVOCATING FOR THRIVING PUBLIC SCHOOLS
My seven years of experience on the Guilford Board of Education, serving as past Policy Chair and now as Vice Chair, position me extremely well as a state-wide advocate for advancing our public schools to be places of learning innovation, supportive exploration and unlimited growth. We must continue to expand legislative efforts around supporting learning communities that are equitable, diverse and inclusive so that every child can recognize their absolute value and embrace their limitless potential. Our educators are the heroes of our schools and they need the resources to balance the complex needs of their students with the ever-increasing pressures to provide successful outcomes. At a time when public education and educators are being stretched beyond measure, we need to ensure legislation that codifies our commitment as a state to the sustaining excellence of our learning communities and the support of our heroic educators. Schools only succeed when the community is invested in their success.
Over the past two years serving on the legislative Education Committee, I have led on various initiatives to support the mental health needs of our students, properly fund our public schools and identify innovative ways to expand learning for every student. From our youngest learners
to those pursuing higher education or workforce training, there is no greater investment we can make as a state than in our students and their future trajectories.
